Capitan Chamber Smokey Bear 4th of July Parade, Friday, July 4th, 2008

Parade Theme: ‘Freedom isn’t Free. Vote!’
 

The Capitan Smokey Bear Parade is a time-honored Lincoln County Tradition. Last year we set a new record: 120+ entries and a crowd estimated at 5000+. With your participation, we can beat that! Don’t miss this opportunity to place your business, organization, yourself or your kids in the spotlight.

RULES - PLEASE READ CAREFULLY BEFORE COMPLETING APPLICATION!

 

1. Registration:  Registration Deadline is Tuesday, July 1st, 2008. Late entries will be placed at the end of the line and will not be judged!  Please read and complete the enclosed application carefully and return the self-addressed application to the Capitan Chamber of Commerce not later than Tuesday, July 1st, 2008. You may also drop it by the Chamber Office at 443 Smokey Bear Blvd or Fax it to us at 505-354-3666. Applications are due by Tuesday, July 1st.

 

2. Dimensions & Design:  Float dimensions should not exceed:  width 13', length 40' (including tow) and height 13'.  The Smokey Bear Parade celebrates the 4th of July. Just about anything goes. Choose your theme & show your colors!

 

3. ATV’s, 4-wheelers, dirt bikes, motorcycles & similar vehicles: Helmets and eye protection are required by
law for everyone 18 and under on all such vehicles. children 16 and under are limited by law to driving  a 90cc maximum.

 

4. Kids Entries:  Age 12 and under: All float and pickup truck entries carrying children under age 12 must have an accompanying adult on the float or in the bed of the pickup. Our children are our heritage. We must be responsible for their safety.  Bike or walking entries must have an accompanying adult on the parade route.

 

5. Candy must be thrown far enough off the road to prevent children entering the road to collect it, a hazard for the children participants behind you. Please see that everyone in your group adheres to this precaution. 

 

6. Line-Up and Disbursement:  Lineup begins at 9 am, the parade at 10 am. Report to the Parade Marshall upon
your arrival to pick up your lineup number at the corner of Forrest and Highway 380 next to the Capitan Schools. All entries will be lined-up on Forrest and accompanying side streets with the exception of fire trucks and emergency vehicles which will line up on Hwy 380 by Soil and Water Conservation.  The parade will end on 2nd Street after turning off Lincoln. Please call the Chamber after July 2nd for your line-up number.

 

7. Prizes:  There will be awards for each categories (see application form)  Judging will be based on interpretation of theme, workmanship, originality and overall impression. Entries will be judged as they pass the reviewing stand. Trophies will be available at the Chamber Visitor's Center after 1 pm. Barring an emergency, the parade will keep moving at 5-8 mph.

 

8. All entries received after the July 2nd deadline will be placed at the end of the line and will not be judged. NO EXCEPTIONS!  Try to arrive by 8:30am. Pre-parade line-up begins promptly at 9:00 am!  Contestants will be provided their numbers for judging by the parade marshall - they must be placed on the passenger side of vehicles and floats and on the backs of pedestrian, equestrian, and bicycle contestants.  If the numbers are not visible the entries cannot be judged.

 

Your signature on the Entry Form acknowledges that you have read, understand & will comply with the rules governing the Parade.
